Welcome Back!

We have had a wonderful start to the new academic year. It is so lovely to have everyone back, and to see the school buzzing with the energy and enthusiasm of our children…and staff! Everyone is settling happily into their new classrooms and routines, and there is already such a positive atmosphere across the school. What a great start — we really do start as we mean to go on!

We have sixty new Reception children joining us this term, along with pupils who have joined classes across the school. We extend a very warm welcome to all of these children and their families as they become part of our kind, caring and supportive community. We are delighted to have you with us.

This term has certainly got off to a flying start and is already proving to be one of our busiest yet. We have held parent workshops in Year 1 and Year 2, sharing routines and expectations for the year ahead. We have also celebrated our new Year 6 Head Boys and Girls, together with our Deputy Head Boys and Girls, and Year 3 have enjoyed a wonderful ‘French Afternoon’. It has been fantastic to see so many children embracing new opportunities and taking on new responsibilities with such enthusiasm.

As always, please check our key dates and events carefully. There is lots happening this term, and we want everyone to feel well-prepared and able to take part in all that school life has to offer. 

We are looking forward to a happy, exciting and successful term, filled with learning, opportunities and memorable experiences for our children. Thank you, as always, for your continued support and for working in such close partnership with us. Together, we can ensure that our children have the very best possible start to the year.

Attendance

Last year, our attendance was 95.4%. Our whole school target for this academic year is 96.5%. We would love to achieve this. If your child/ren are not in, we cannot educate them, and they miss vital parts of a carefully planned curriculum journey. Please help us improve attendance this year. We ask that medical appointments are made during school holidays or outside of school hours if possible. We have noticed that attendance drops at the end of each term. Please note we are not able to authorise holiday taken during term time and we ask that you work with us to ensure your child is in school right up until the last day of term. Thank you in advance for your support with this for this academic year. We are really looking forward to the year ahead.

Summer Works

We are delighted to share some of the work that has been undertaken on our school site over the summer holiday. As many of you will have seen, the windows on the south side of the school have been replaced, improving both ventilation and insulation.

This was not a decision we took lightly, given the history and character of our school building. However, we are delighted with the result and feel that the integrity and character of the building have been carefully preserved. The new windows look fantastic and will provide a much-improved environment for our children and staff.

We have also had our beautiful wooden floors refurbished. It has been decades since these floors were stripped back and revarnished, and the result is amazing. You will certainly notice the difference when you attend a Superstar Assembly or one of our workshops. It is wonderful to see these parts of our school looking as good as new.

Year 3 French Afternoon

Today, Year 3 began learning French with an afternoon of French games, crafts and food tasting.  First, the children learnt about the geography of France and the French flag.  They then had fun playing a game using their knowledge of the days of the week in French.  The best part had to be when they tasted croissants and pain-au-chocolats which they described as ‘delicieux’. It has been a wonderful afternoon and a great start to studying French at Wylde Green.  Tres bien travail.

Supporting Our Families – West Midlands Multibank

We are pleased to let families know that our school has now registered with West Midlands Multibank. West Midlands Multibank is a regional community initiative dedicated to redistributing surplus goods from businesses to families in need across the West Midlands. Operated by Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC) in partnership with local charities, voluntary groups, and public-sector organisations, the West Midlands Multibank has provided over 1,000,000 essential items to over 100,000 households to date. These range from clothing, household goods and toiletries, to toys and school kits—free of charge at the point of distribution. If you feel your family could benefit from this support, please speak to Mr Bannister or the school office.

September 2026 Wellbeing update from Togetherness

Togetherness is an online learning environment developed by psychologists and health practitioners providing accessible learning about emotional health and wellbeing, proven to positively impact mental health, behaviour and relationships. This update includes ways to help your child as they prepare for their return to school, as well as understanding your child’s emotions and knowing how to respond.
