British Values
British Values at Wylde Green Primary School
At Wylde Green Primary School, we are committed to promoting and teaching British values to ensure that our children understand the importance of respect and are fully prepared for life in modern Britain. Our approach to instilling British values is deeply rooted in our school vision and values.
Democracy
At Wylde Green Primary School, we believe in the importance of democracy and actively promote it to our students. We provide opportunities for children to have their voices heard and be involved in decision-making processes through platforms such as the School Council and class discussions. We encourage open dialogue and respectful debate, teaching children the value of listening to others' opinions and collaborating to reach consensus. By fostering a democratic environment, we prepare our students to become active and engaged citizens in a democratic society.
The Rule of Law
We teach the importance of laws and rules, including those of Great Britain, school rules, and class rules. Children are consistently reminded of the reasons for laws that govern and protect us, as well as the consequences of breaking them. Classroom rules are prominently displayed in all our classrooms.
Individual Liberty
Children actively participate in setting their class rules and have a say in how school rules are reflected within their year group. Through platforms like the School Council and ECO club, children's voices are heard, and important decisions are made based on democratic processes. Children are encouraged to make choices within a safe and supportive environment, guided by clear boundaries and expectations.
Mutual Respect
Respect is at the core of our school environment, where children learn that their behaviours impact their own rights and those of others. Through dialogue, displays, and interactions, we promote a culture of respect among all members of our school community.
Tolerance of Different Beliefs
Our rich religious education curriculum exposes children to a variety of faiths and beliefs present in Britain today. We celebrate diversity and encourage children to share their experiences, fostering a culture of understanding and respect for different perspectives.
Contributing to the Lives of Others
We empower children to make a positive difference in their community through various charitable activities and initiatives. Our curriculum is designed to educate children about Britain's history, values, and the services that support our society.
